Wheat Crop Report. Oct 2012

I tweeted these pictures as a crop report the other day. They show just how good our crops look at the moment, but also the moisture stress that they’re starting to feel. However, despite yields going down we’re still looking at an average or even slightly above average season.

The view from up top. This Durum crop looks sensational & has great yield potential. (Up to 5T/Ha)

BUT this is the view underneath. With this crop finishing flowering much yield will be won or lost over coming week.

No major harm done yet, but these plants are showing early signs of moisture stress.

I took these photos last Friday, and with no rain since then and little forecast for the next week it looks like the crops will start ripening off in earnest now.
