Contemporary Scholars Conference – Day 1

We’re now here in the town of Reims, located in the Champagne region of France for our Contemporary Scholars Conference (CSC) which is the gathering of all the Nuffield scholars around the world in 2015.

This year there are scholars attending from the following countries:

  • Australia
  • New Zealand
  • Canada
  • France
  • United Kingdom
  • Ireland
  • Netherlands
  • Brazil

Saturday Night – Arrived in Reims in time for a welcome function with a former scholar supplying us his champagne for us to taste. Remember what I said in the last post about this being a different world.

Sunday – At 8am the conference got underway, with introductions based around the various countries participating in the conference. The introductions showed us the diversity of people involved in Nuffield and reinforced to us that whether are, or can be leaders in our  fields .

The afternoon featured a paper chase around Reims, which finished at the Notre-Dame de Reims. A truly magnificent gothic cathedral that has to be seen to be believed.
